A Verse From Sasha

Hold Me

I want to cry.
Just sometime, let me cry.
Do not demand
that constant smile from me.

I know you are
uneasy with my tears.
I need to cry.
Please, do not turn away.

I promise you
that I will smile again.
Tomorrow I will be as light as air.

But hold me now
and let my sorrow be.
Just for today,
this moment: let me cry.

Karen, I think anyone who has lost a loved one would understand this poem. So beautifully expressed.

Barbara, this verse was written by Sascha Wagner. She was born in Bremen, Germany and emigrated to the U.S. in 1947. She has two children, her youngest died from drowning and her oldest from suicide. She is able to express the pain of losing a child and the journey of healing so eloquently. She was honored with an award from The Compassionate Friends. Her writings has helped me to understand my own grief. Thank you for comments.
